FAA Reauthorization: Harnessing the Evolution of Flight to Deliver for the American People
Subcommittee on Aviation Hearing | March 30, 2023
"Non-profits like Urban Movement Labs, the Community Air Mobility Initiative, AeroX, MassAutonomy, and the newly formed Advanced Air Mobility Institute aim to bridge this gap [in multi-modal transportation planning / education] and support communities in advancing technology fostering holistic integration."
Catching a short flight from a neighborhood vertiport — the name for landing areas — will almost feel “like a bus stop but for aerial travel,” said Sloat, who leads the Advanced Air Mobility Insititute and talked to me last week about the industry’s prospects.
“The FAA is right to acknowledge that while their aviation safety mission is absolutely paramount, the complexity of UAM operations will require extensive input from industry operators and from other regulatory agencies to ensure fair and equitable practices,” says Dan Sloat of the Advanced Air Mobility Institute.
“I think the FAA has taken the path that best preserves their safety record and strong reputation in that regard,” said Dan Sloat, founder and president of the Boston-based Advanced Air Mobility Institute, by email. “My personal hope is that the FAA will strive to permit an easing of requirements and restrictions as further safety testing proves just how safe & reliable AAM aircraft are designed to be.”
Advanced Air Mobility Institute Founder and President Dan Sloat talks to www.aaminternational.com about the organization’s role in the new field of aviation, its partnership with Lyte Aviation, and what the future holds for Advanced Air Mobility as an industry.
